Just after the logo for the Olympic games in London 2012 was unveiled, a lot of controversy appeared. First the usual complaints of course – too expensive, a child could have done better, my dog could have done better etc.
But also some more unusual complaints – look again – is it really Lisa Simpson doing a blowjob? – or just a woman with big hair and five earrings on her knees in front of a man. It was also accused of triggering epilepsy and being a broken nazi-swastika …
Since then it has been quiet, but now the Iranians are adding to the turmoil. The International Olympic Committee confirms they have received a letter from Tehran, where Iran threatens to order their athletes to stay away from the London 2012, because the logo hides the message ZION in it.
Well – what you’re looking for, you can find, when you go abstract. That is an old design-concept from the days, when ice-cubes in an advert always meant something sexual. The designers must be laughing quite a bit. I can’t wait to see, what hidden messages will be found in the one-eyed mascots Wenlock and Mandeville.
